Brett Morgan: Preparation doesn’t stop

“Players have been equipped with mobile gym plans. They also have all our schematics available online. We are supplementing that with additional visual learning and alternative ways to keep them engaged. Preparation doesn’t stop” – assures Brett Morgan, Head Coach of Wieliczka Dragons American football team.

Coronavirus has changed the plans of many organizations, including Wieliczka Dragons. Have you ever come across a situation like this?

I have actually, I was the Head Coach of the Koc Rams in Turkey in the year of the military coup d’etat. Everything was shut down, bank accounts were frozen, people arrested and killed. We were set to play in Wroclaw for Europe’s Final Four that year and were not able to prepare at all. We had players transporting back in from other countries and we couldn’t contact them, had no idea their whereabouts. So, unfortunately, I have some experience in disrupted seasons and total uncertainty.

You have decided to suspend training. Do the players have any individual training plans or the sports just recedes into the background now?

Players have been equipped with mobile gym plans since our arrival, and they are utilizing those now. They also have all our schematics available to them online. We are supplementing that now with additional visual learning and alternative ways to keep them engaged. Preparation doesn’t stop.

Are all the players and coaches healthy? Is there nothing to worry about?

It’s a trying time mentally and emotionally for all. Each person has their struggles that we are trying to support through our resources as an organization. Physically we are fine from what I understand, I pray for that to continue.

Do you already have an option B of the preparations plan if the season is delayed or, at worst, canceled?

We do have contingencies in place, we’ll adapt and be as prepared as possible if there’s a delay. For a cancellation, it’s a different set of circumstances and we’d have to reassess our timeframe then. But I’ll ultimately have us prepared in all situations.

It was supposed to be Wieliczka Dragons debut season in the Polish 2nd division. Can the fans stay calm – you won’t give up?

I’m not discouraged in any way. My enthusiasm and passion are unwavering, the fans can count on that!
